About
Built for the rooms we already love.
Why this exists
For fifteen years, social media has been pulling people out of the room. Out of the cafe, out of the bar, out of the hotel lobby. The feed got bigger. The room got quieter.
Peek pulls people back in.
We built a chat room that only exists when you are physically inside it. Sit down at the cafe, the room appears. Step out, you leave. Last call comes, the chat closes.
The room is the network. The night is the feed. Last call is the unfollow.
The thesis
Three things are different here.
Not lookalike-modeled. You can only join a room you are physically in. GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth confirm presence — not “likely interest.”
Not eternal. No archive of yesterday's chat. No screenshot loops. The room runs while you are in it and closes when you leave.
Not anonymous. People show up as themselves. Real photos, real bios, real accountability. The opposite of locker-room apps.
Lineage
From a dorm chat to the room downstairs.
Peek is a product of Butterfly Social Network, Inc. We started small. The room shape worked. Then we scaled it.
- 2024Butterfly launches on a college campus — location-gated chat for verified students.
- 2025USC + UCLA. 10,000+ verified students. 4.4 stars. The primitive works.
- 2026Peek launches the same primitive for the rooms after college — cafes, coworking, restaurants, bars, hotel lobbies.
- late 2026Brand marketplace opens. Coffee houses, spirits, naturals, snack brands — placing campaigns inside the rooms their customers are in tonight.
What we believe
Five things we do not compromise on.
In-person first.
Every feature anchors to a physical room. No work-arounds, no "but what if you are not there." If you are not in the room, you are not in the chat.
Time-bounded by design.
When the room closes, the chat closes. No archive. No screenshots passing through other apps. What happens here, stays here.
Verified, not anonymous.
Names, presence, accountability. Real photos, real bios. The opposite of the locker-room apps that have made the last decade harder to live in.
For operators, not against them.
The venue owns the room. We make the tool. Bartenders, baristas, GMs, hosts — your voice is verified, your specials are pinned, your floor stays yours.
Editorial, not engagement-farmed.
Quiet confidence over loud noise. Specific over generic. Restraint over hype. We are not chasing the algorithm — we are chasing the night.
Tonight there's a room you don't know about yet.
We want to be the reason you find it.
